12.31.11 “The End”

"The End"Thank you to all who supported me and followed along with this project all year long. Whether you took the time to view each and every photo from the year, just a few, or just one. Your support is appreciated more than you could ever know.

So raise your nearest glass and here’s to you! Hope this year was everything you wanted.

Make sure you set out to accomplish a personal goal for yourself in 2012. This project is proof that anything you can set your mind to can be accomplished with persistence and patience.

Happy New Year!

10.5.11 “How an Apple Changed the World”

"How an Apple Changed the World"It educated me when I was young.
It word processed my school reports.
It created banners for birthday parties.
It allowed me to listen to favorite music.
It allowed me to watch favorite movies.
It allowed me to read favorite books.
It allowed me to communicate with friends across the world in real time.

It allows me to live my dream in ways I never imagined I could, such as bring this project to you right now.

It didn’t just change my world, it changed THE world, and we’ve just barely taken a bite!

9.2.11 “Reflections of Greatness”

"Reflections of Greatness" This is my office. Well, some of it. When I’m working on something creative at home my computer screen reflects everything behind me that is a creative driving force. Some of it is art pieces I created before, or some are just things that inspire me overall. I learn and am inspired by those that have come before me. Whenever I get in a rut, all I have to do is look at this reflection and I’m instantly reminded that there is no time to waste sitting around. I must keep at it if I ever want a piece of my own work hanging behind someone else one day who is using their God given talent to create something amazing.

8.22.11 “A Model Home”

"A Model Home"Chicago may be my home. LA may be my home away from home. But this is my home away from home away from home.

In other words, when I’m missing Chicago all I have to do is remind myself this is where I go to work everyday.

Things aren’t so bad when you’re living your dreams.

6.5.11 “Under a Caged Sky”

"Under a Caged Sky"Sometimes it feels like you’re trapped, when all you hear around you is the sky’s the limit.

Courage will make you stronger. Faith will lift you to new heights.

Believing in yourself will make you realize you had it in you all along.

4.14.11 “Channeling Ziggy”

"Channeling Ziggy"I don’t judge success by the amount of money I make, because there will always be someone who will come along and make more. I judge success by the number of people I touch with my work. At the end of my run if I can look back and say I was able to have everything I ever wanted, in monetary terms, it would mean nothing.

No, what I want is to be able to look back one last time and know that I created something that changed the world. Those are what my heroes achieved, and is a goal of mine that keeps me yearning to do more each and every day.

Too much to ask you say? If you think so then maybe you should go back to watching “Jersey Shore”.

4.10.11 “100 Things to See”

"100 Things to See"Today marks 100 days into this project. 100 photos. 100 different ways to see the world around you. Some good. Some not so good. Is every day always a good one? I’ve never doubted myself from the start of this project, but I’ll be honest, 100 photos seems like a lot, but it’s nothing. There’s a long road ahead. It’s been an adventure so far. And based on how everything has gone already, I have NO idea what’s next. So today’s photo is finally a self portrait. Maybe not the best. But what I feel is a great representation of me and what I do best, on the open road to visions unknown! But I am curious to see how you think I’ve done so far. So I invite you to please go back and look through all the previous photos so far. Tell me your to favorites. Could be one, or two, or whatever. Share a comment here. Email me. Facebook me. Tie a note to a pigeon and let it fly. I’m curious to know…

4.7.11 “Workin’ It”

"Workin' It"As a writer, I used to spend a lot of my time behind a computer. As a photographer, I spend a lot of my time behind a camera, but equally, if not more time still behind a computer thanks to technology. There’s a level of commitment to achieving your goals and a level of sacrifice. I miss dinners. I go to bed way later than I should. I give up a lot to get done the things I need to do.

I often get challenged by people, both in my field, and not, that say “You don’t create a photograph. It’s already in front of you. It already exists. You’re just pointing it out. Photoshopping is cheating. Digital is fake. Film is real. You have to achieve this to be considered a ‘pro’ or you need to sell this much before you actually consider yourself a successful. Bla. Bla Bla.”

Do I have rough days? Yes. Have I made millions? No. Have I shot the cover of Vogue? Not yet. So what have I achieved? I’ve seen people’s jaws drop at some of my photos, asking how I managed to capture that? I’ve had parents stand in front of me and cry tears of joy when they see a photo of their child, then hug me and tell me I managed to give them a memory that they will have forever. I’ve stood on a stage in front of tens of thousands of people and shoot a rock and roll concert and have people come up to me after and say, “How can I get your job?” I’ve taken a photo of something and thought it was the worst picture I ever shot, then give myself a migraine trying to figure out why everyone I know is telling me it’s the most amazing thing they’ve ever seen. Those reactions are what keep me coming back for more. I thrive off that energy!

At the end of the day why do I do this? Because I love it. Of course, the perks are magnificent. The people I get to work with are amazing. And as I sit here looking at this screen, adding a bit of sparkle to these beautiful eyes form this model I just shot I realize that the worst part of my day would most likely be the best part of someone else’s. I never take this for granted. This is what I do, because I love it. I hope you like it.
